Word-filtering is going to apply to searchable areas, so, for example, room names, group names, interests, taglines, etc. It is *not* going to apply to actual conversations in those rooms, groups, etc. It is important to note there are also separate lists for a few different categories of users. So while a word may be acceptable for AP users, it may not be appropriate for GA users, and the system will take that into account, and AP users will see a word that is on the list of AP-acceptable words. There are three lists of words – one list of words which we have determined are acceptable for adults, one list of words that are acceptable for AP holders, and one list of words that are considered UFI and are unacceptable on public areas of the site. Let me get a bit more specific about how these lists will work.
So, creating a room name with an inappropriate (UFI) word in the name will still let you create the room, but it will not show up in the rooms lister, nor in search results. You will, however, still be able to send people a link to that room, those people will still be able to join it, etc. You will, however, still be able to say the word in the room itself, or in private messages between you and your friends.
In terms of interests and taglines, these words will simply not show up, either in the interest or tagline field. So, for example, if we decided the word “bacon” was considered a UFI word, and a user’s tagline was typed in as “I’m a bacon loving guy!” we would simply remove “bacon” from that, and the tagline would appear as “I’m a loving guy!” Because taglines and interests appear in many sections of the site, they are always going to be held to GA rules across the board.
This is also how it will also function for product names and descriptions, although they will not all be held to GA standards. If a product was a sticker called “Bacon lovers unite” and “bacon” was considered a UFI word, the product title would appear as “lovers unite.” If “bacon” was considered an AP word, the product title would appear as “bacon lovers unite” for AP users, and “lovers unite” for GA users. Considering a product with an AP word should be categorized as an AP product anyway, this should not be a major concern.
Obviously, you can change this word in the product title and/or description to something else, and resubmit the product, if you’re unhappy with the blank space in the title or description, or you can simply carry on and have the product listed with the missing words.
IMVU credits is not a virtual world. It is a 3D IM client with 1 million beta users as of the summer of 2007. IMVU offers users a customizable 3D avatar and chat service through a downloadable application. Avatars have a variety of clothes, accessories and scenes and although each scene looks like part of a full virtual world, actual movement is limited. Unlike more robust avatar based programs like Second Life, IMVU credits has an understandably younger user base. Avatars generally appear to be in their teens, yet often have very revealing clothes.In the near future, IMVU credits plans to add games and branded accessories and characters to the program. Users will be able to be their favorite movie stars and dress in clothes they wear in real life. This potentially opens IMVU up to clothing and accessory advertisers as well as game developers.
