For a long time now, yahoo and msn among some of the well known IMs have been trying to add dynamic contents to the chat windows using envonments, emoticons, audibles and what not.. But again, there was always something missing in this kind of chat.. Of course there was audio and video conferencing available. But then.. nothing exciting. Lets leave google out of this though because IMO, they are no way near to the features that yahoo and msn have to offer in their IM clients.
Today i came across a 3-D chat client called imvu credits. This looks like a mix between the yahoo avatars and second life. The buddy list window looks a bit like msn messenger's window except that it is very rich in UI.. When creating your avatar, you can specify how you want to look like. You need to download a client of size about 12MB size. After you download, you can see your avatar in a 3d view in a room. You can customize your room or change rooms. If you want to chat, you can invite people over to your room or go to their room and start chatting.
There are also 3-d emoticons available (which i cannot do justice by describing in this text blog..) but here is a screen shot of me trying to have a conversation with some cute girl.. (which obviously didnt work out!)
